Cathy Gavin is a painter and photographer based in New York City. Her images flow insightfully between a familiar and an unfamiliar impressionistic style, drawing inspiration from the varied environments she surrounds herself in, between the urban and rural alike.
Her foundational studies began in the 1990s under the guidance of Peter Solow at the Art Barge’s Victor D'Amico Institute of Art. She has since attended Parsons, School of Visual Arts, the International Center of Photography, and is perpetually exploring the world of art.
Cathy’s artwork has been exhibited in Keith Mayerson's Salon Show at the Derek Eller Gallery (2007), the Luminos Fund at Christie’s Auction House (2020), and Frieze Los Angeles’ partnership with Art For Justice (2020). Previously commissioned by the FJK Dance Company to feature her Water Series photography (2012), her artwork can also be found in numerous private collections.
